A Little Bit About Me

I am David Kropp, Certified Aromatherapist, and Welcome to Essentials by DK!

I have been a professional baker for over 20 years serving the upstate NY area. I have a beautiful wife and three wonderful gifts from God (the kiddos). Whether I am at work, home, or just about anyplace, you can find me in the kitchen making something great or experimenting with something new.

I love creating my own custom blends and specialty products, all natural, the way it should be. I am here to teach you how to use Essential Oils safely and maybe even provide some yummy recipes!

In January 2012, I began having digestive issues. I was experiencing stomach cramping and bloating, unable to eat, nausea, irregular bowel movements, and basically the feeling of someone constantly stabbing me in the stomach. At times the pain was so bad I could barely stand up. These problems led me to the ER a several times. After determining that I was not going to die they would just send me home. One Dr. even told me I was giving him too many symptoms. Every time they said I was just constipated, but I knew that was not the only problem. A few weeks later I was in tears as I came home from work – the pain was excruciating. I asked my wife to take me to another hospital again to see if there was anything they could do. Well this is when all the fun started! An x-ray showed my intestines were full of air but there was no blockage. They sent me to a specialist who began all sorts of (not so) fun tests to rule out cancers, Crohn’s disease, celiac disease, etc. According to WebMD I was experiencing an ectopic pregnancy – somehow I doubt that! All of my tests kept coming back that I was in perfect health. Which led to my diagnosis…

I was diagnosed with IBS and severe acid reflux in March 2012. It felt like my life was over. I could not leave the house without knowing how far I was from the next bathroom. My Dr. tried different medications but nothing worked for my IBS. I found a little relief for most of my symptoms from natural remedies using herbal supplements, teas, probiotics and Alkaline water. I also drastically changed my diet to include high soluble fiber and eliminated dairy, fats and whole grains. I ate small meals throughout the day so there was always something in my stomach. That helped with most of my symptoms and issues. The problem with IBS is that in almost every case you could have different symptoms and multiple triggers that will set everything off. For me, my trigger is stress!!! Stress can be so hard to get a handle on and overcome. I had a very stressful job with long hours.

In 2014 my heart started beating very fast and hard and I was also having a hard time breathing and catching my breath. After failing a couple of EKG’s they thought I was having heart failure! Let me tell you, at 34, you do not want to hear those words.

What Is Heart Failure?

According to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, “Heart failure is a condition in which the heart can't pump enough blood to meet the body's needs. In some cases, the heart can't fill with enough blood. In other cases, the heart can't pump blood to the rest of the body with enough force. Some people have both problems. The term "heart failure" doesn't mean that your heart has stopped or is about to stop working. However, heart failure is a serious condition that requires medical care."

Off I went to the cardiologist for multiple testings, ultrasounds of my arteries to see what was going on, and some equipment that I had to wear so they could keep an eye on me and what was happening with my heart. After all of that, everything came back absolutely normal and nothing was wrong. Thank you God!!! So, what caused all of this? I now say, “It amazes me what stress can do to your body.” Yup, it was stress and it hit me hard! To top it all off I nearly suffered a nervous breakdown. I was able to take about 2 months off of work to get a handle on my life and spend some well deserved time with my family. Around this same time was when I discovered essential oils and what they can do for your body and mind. I was amazed on how I felt just by breathing in some essential oil aromas. Let me just tell you, I was a different person without all of that stress. It was a huge eye opener for me to feel the difference on what the stress was doing to me. I was also able to eat more foods and they were not bothering me or giving me any issues. I felt amazing!

After those 2 months, back to work I went. Multiple uncontrollable issues later, guess what? Within a week I was back to feeling like I was before I took the time off! I did what I could and nothing was changing or helping. So, just before I started to have another breakdown I had to make the hardest and toughest decision in my life...to stay in a job I loved or to leave my job to save my life! What I had to ask myself was, in 5-10 years, would I regret staying for the money and security but losing my life, or leaving for my life back and being there for my family and starting a new adventure?

It was a hard decision to leave my job of 10 years, but it was something that I had to do.

At this point I was using essential oils for a couple years for my own health and having wonderful benefits. The more people that came to me looking for advise, the more I wanted to make sure I knew what I was talking about! The more I researched essential oils the more confused I felt about all the different information that was out there. My research led me to Aromahead Institute School of Essential Oil Studies. I slowly started my certification training in 2014, but due to working long hours I didn't get very far. Once I left my job in January 2015 I took a few months to get my health back in order. Then I jumped back into my training.

I am now proud to say, as of March 2016, I am a part of the amazing community of Certified Aromatherapists!!!

Let the new adventure begin!
